LECTURES

Week 1: 25/9/2024
Lecture 1:
We learned how to edit graphics through ai, such as how to turn a circular tool into water droplets and how to make a triangle into an obtuse triangle, while we practiced.
The example
We also learned the use of some basic drawing tools, such as pen tools, shape tools, and curvature tools.
How to use the pen tool

We have learned three basic shapes: circle, rectangle, and triangle.
And create corresponding characters based on them.
Disney characters of different shapes

In addition to using different shapes, you can also shape the character's personality by using different colors.
For example, green represents bitterness and disgust, blue represents sadness and calmness, red represents anger and passion, and yellow represents happiness and positivity.

Week 2: 1/10/2024
Lecture 2:
In this lesson, we learned how to use the Pen Tool and the Curve Tool, and also practiced using both tools.
We practiced shapes like hearts, cars, airplanes, flags, etc.

Week 3: 7/10/2024
Lecture 3:
In this class, the teacher demonstrated how to make an Adidas logo. Using the curve tool and rectangle tool, we can draw exactly the same logo.

Likewise, we learned how to create shadows using the Pathfinder tool, giving our original character design a more distinct sense of depth.

FEEDBACK

Week 1: 25/9/2024

I drew this sketch when I learned we were going to create a character. It was made up of eight basic strokes - Biocellulose robotic bugs.

The Sketch
Eight Basic Strokes
The inspiration came from the random combination of these strokes. A triangular bug, but not just a triangle. It should have rounded limbs and sharp claws.
It reminded me of the mechanical bugs in some biohazard movies, but I also wanted to keep some of its biological characteristics, so I kept its temperature-sensitive color-changing center.
The triangles are its hardest mechanical exoskeleton, but the skin underneath them is so fragile - so in the next assignment, I will try to use different colors to illustrate this.

Week 2: 1/10/2024

Line Art
Normal State Color
The color I chose for this cute little bug is a low-saturation, low-brightness Morandi color system, but it is obvious that each part of the body has a different color. I want to use obvious but not directly conflicting colors to show the degree of transformation it has received.
You can notice that it has a structure similar to a bee's sting. This is what I want to explain. It combines some of the bee's genes, so it still retains some of the bee's habits. It is used to collecting nectar, although it can only rub pollen all over its body and cannot drink it.I used a dark color to express its regret—reflected in the painting as dripping nectar.

In Angry

One of the points I designed for it is that it will receive external stimuli and change color in response to temperature. The main color-changing part is not the biological part, but the mechanical part, which is the most interesting. It can be understood as a temperature-sensitive color-changing machine.
When it enters the angry state, its stinger will become hot, and it will stop all actions and focus on attacking threatening targets. But most of the time it is in a normal state because this mode consumes a lot of energy. We have no way of knowing what system is implanted in its body, but it can absorb sunlight through the mechanical part to supply energy to the whole body.

Week 3: 7/10/2024

The Shadows

After learning about shadows, I overshadowed it. In addition to using the pathfinder, I also used the brush to paint inside.
The shadow cast by the light on the left side makes it feel more 3D, increasing and enriching the sense of layering.

Additional activities

The show

As the ninth group, the eight of us discussed the rough draft and the overall theme of "Unity and Diversity" before the competition. We used water and fire as the border, one side represents the ocean, the other side represents the tropics, symbolizing Malaysia. The main body is the people of the three major races.

In this activity, we met new friends and exercised our teamwork ability. The whole design process was tense and exciting, and our inspirations collided with each other, all of which brought me very good memories.
